Larian Studios Announce a Latest Divinity, Labeling it Their Most Ambitious RPG Yet

The buzz surrounding The Game Awards reached a fever pitch, notably after host Geoff Keighley posted an enigmatic image of a strange statue. The question has been revealed. The acclaimed developer is creating a completely new Divinity game.

Titled simply Divinity, the game was presented with a bold trailer packed with intense imagery, from a figure engulfed in flames to scenes of revelry and the literal unleashing of hell.

Moving Beyond Original Sin

For those expecting Divinity Original Sin 3, this is not that. Larian warned that a third Original Sin game to its venerated RPGs is not on the cards right now.

Nevertheless, the developer referred to this new Divinity as a continuation of the core franchise. This phrasing hints that the team might be building a faster-paced experience rather than another turn-based title. At this moment, we can only guess, as only a cinematic trailer is available.

What Makes Divinity Special

The Divinity series is widely praised and it's fair to claim it kicked off the modern wave of crunchy computer role-playing games. These games are known for rich lore, choice-driven narratives, and deep class systems—elements that subsequently found massive success in games like Baldur's Gate 3.

While its setting is classic fantasy, what really distinguishes Divinity apart is the immense freedom bestowed upon the player.

Where many modern RPGs have simplified options, Divinity is packed with niche playthroughs you can achieve by choosing a particular class or origin with a unique decision path.

The series is also famously open-ended, letting players to improvise both in story and combat. Nearly every quest can be completed in multiple ways, frequently in unexpected fashion.

  • You might solve a puzzle because you remembered something a dog told you.
  • Or, you could overcome an obstacle by teleporting a glob of lava in a unorthodox way.

A New Chapter Begins

It is this design philosophy that lead fans and critics to hail games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as among the greatest role-playing games ever made. Now, players can anticipate a new entry in this esteemed franchise.
