A resurgent Daniil Medvedev won his maiden title for over two years with success over Corentin Moutet in the Almaty Open final.

The athlete, a former world number one, has had a difficult year, winning just one win at the major tournaments and undergoing a meltdown at the American major.

Medvedev's varied form on the ATP Tour - and issues with his service game in specific - resulted in him falling of the top ten and eventually separating with long-time trainer Cervara.

Now training with Thomas Johansson and his other coach, he has consistently progressed in the past month - climaxing in a closely contested competitive triumph over opponent Corentin Moutet.

It is Medvedev's maiden trophy since the 2023 Rome Masters and first on a hardcourt since spring of that year.

The win also signifies Medvedev has achieved 21 titles at 21 different events.

"It's the first time I have attended a competition with my two daughters together, so to win a championship is particularly special," stated ranked player Medvedev.

"This championship is in honour of my second daughter my daughter, because the initial championship I got when my first daughter her name was delivered was for her."

The tennis star, the 2021 US Open champion, had failed in his last six championship matches, comprising in the German tournament earlier this year.

Medvedev's counter-punching approach and recurring reactions on the tennis court had prompted some to question if his ability to play at the elite level was concluded.

Yet the 29-year-old has implemented adjustments in recent weeks, striving to approach the net and perform aggressively, backed up by an improved service.

He recovered from a disadvantage in the initial set against the challenging Moutet, winning 4 of the last five games to gain the advantage.

Both players traded breaks in the second set before the challenger, attempting for his maiden professional victory, gained dominance to create a decider.

The opponent rescued 4 early-game chances in a tight deciding set before the Russian secured a break to that score to close out the victory.

Appropriately, he clinched the title with a rally at the front of the court, with Moutet incapable to manage a shot after two hours and 38 minutes.
